part of our Darin Lifetime Event one of the fundraisers for the Children’s
Heart Foundation will be two lively, fun-filled live AUCTIONS.
Once again our auctioneer will be Bobby’s brother Gary Walden.
His cute Vanna girl assistants will be Jane Schran, Ruth Harzer and
Ericha Walden. Listed
below is a partial list of the items donated for the Darin Lifetime Event 09
AUCTIONS. Due to the continued
generosity of Mr. Darin’s family and other Darin fans we have marvelous,
unique, one-of-a kind authentic memorabilia from Bobby’s life. NECKTIE – Brown harlequin pattern
with black diamonds Brown
harlequin silk tie with overall black diamond pattern and narrow pale stripes
was personally owned and worn by Bobby Darin in the early 1960’s.
This is a beautiful tie in excellent condition. NECKTIE – Grey Silk Narrow
steel-grey silk Bobby Darin owned and worn necktie-circa 1960 Rome era.
The tags state: “Sumner’s SLIM – All Silk.” NECKTIE – Black and white pattern This
Bobby Darin personally owned, intricately patterned silk tie was made by Sy
Devore Hollywood, 1533 Vine Street. Mr.
Darin frequently bought his custom made clothes, both for personal and
professional wear, at Mr. Devore’s store.
LETTER TO DICK BEHRKE COPY
of a hand written three-page letter that Bobby Darin wrote to his best friend
Dick Behrke…circa late 1957. Dick
was appearing at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas and Bobby was to do his second
recording session for Atco. This is
the letter quoted in the Al DiOrio book “Borrowed Time” with the often
quoted…”you’ll vomit…I’ve gone all the way with the bastardized
sound.” He of course was talking
about SPLISH SPLASH. The original
of this letter was finally received by Dick Behrke in February 2009…52 years
after Bobby penned it. PRINTING BLOCK 2½”
x 1¼” metal printing stamp. Imprint
in script: “Compliments of Bobby
Darin.” This was most likely used
to imprint photos or promotional items to promote his nightclub appearances or
records. WITHHOLDING TAX STATEMENT ORIGINAL
Form W-2, Copy C of Bobby’s 1954 Withholding Tax Statement from Fine Arts
Theater Co., Inc. The W-2 was
addressed to Walden R. Cassotto, 629 E. 135th St., Bronx 54, N.Y.
Bobby earned a grand total of $155.82. RENTAL PAST DUE STATEMENT ORIGINAL
June 14, 1956 invoice and 3 cent stamped envelope to Mr. W. Cassotto, 60 Baruch
Drive, N.Y.C, N.Y. Young Mr.
Cassotto was past due on his rental fee for the conga and bongo drums from the
Charles Pointe Music Co. Past due
amount for three months was $61.80. REPORT CARD ORIGINAL
City of New York Board of Education Report Card for Walden Cassotto from P.S. 43
- Bronx. The term began in Sept.
1946 and on June 27, 1947 Bobby graduated to Jr. H.S. 37.
During the first card marking Bobby missed 12½ days of school and his
grades of S reflected that.
The other two card marking periods reflect consistent A’s
with the exception of a C in
penmanship. Bobby’s beloved Polly
signed all three report periods and 10 year-old Bobby’s signature is signed on
the front cover as “Walden Cassotto.” CHRISTMAS CARD ORIGINAL
unsent Christmas card from 1955 or 1956. The
card and envelope are personally hand written by Bobby.
The card is headed “Hi People” and signed by “Bobby Walden.”
The return address is Bobby Walden, %Cassotto, 629 E. 135th
St., Bronx 54, N.Y. and addressed to Mr. & Mrs. Manny Shear. THEATRE PROGRAM ORIGINAL
program from The Little Theatre, Hunter College in the Bronx - The Campus
Theatre presents HEDDA GABLER, October 23 – 25, 1953. 17 year-old Bobby was billed as Walden Roberts and played the
role of George Tesman. LETTER TO PAULA W. CASSOTTO ORIGINAL
one-page, handwritten letter and envelope from Bobby to Polly dated April 18,
1956. Bobby was appearing at the
Gay Haven Club and staying at the Hotel Wolverine in Detroit, Michigan.
Nineteen year-old Bobby talked to his mother on the phone and immediately
wrote her a letter and posted it airmail with two 3 cent stamps.
He started: “Hi Mom, Well
2 minutes hasn’t passed & I’m writing.”
He ends with “Love, Bob” surrounded by dozens of X’s. MONTHLY STATEMENT FROM STERN’S
DEPARTMENT STORE ORIGINAL
November 1961 monthly statement from Stern’s Department Store, 41 West 42nd
Street, NY, with original advertising inserts.
Original sent to Bobby at 53 Dacotah Ave., Lake Hiawatha, NJ and then
forwarded to 159 Arthur St., Richfield Park, NJ. Bobby’s balance was $29.95, but a note indicated there was
to be a bill adjustment for merchandise returned. ARTIST ENGAGEMENT CONTRACT This
ORIGINAL contract answers the question…what was Bobby Darin doing on New
Year’s Eve 1957! On November 27,
1957 Bobby signed this one-page contract to appear in two shows at the War
Memorial Auditorium in Rochester, NY on December 31, 1957. He was paid $350 for this engagement. SONGWRITERS CONTRACT April
23, 1958 four-page ORIGINAL songwriters contract between Leeds Music Corporation
and Bobby Darin and Mann Curtis for “Gone Rockin.”
The contract is signed by Bobby and Mann Curtis.
Also included is sheet music from Leeds Music of “This Little Girl’s
Gone Rockin’” as the tune came to be known.
As a bonus we are also including a CD of Ruth Brown singing “This
Little Girl’s Gone Rockin’.” LETTER TO NINA MAFFIA COPY
of two-page typed letter to Nina on Las Vegas Hilton stationary dated July
22, 1973. Bobby wanted
Nina to record her life story so he mailed her a Sony tape deck and cassettes
and this was his instructions to her about using the recorder.
The instructions are very concise, but Bobby’s sense of humor still
shines through. He ends with “I
have not been as excited by any project in years.
I love you.” Then he hand signs the closing “I love you B.” BOBBY’S DIPHTHERIA SHOT RECORD ORIGINAL
City of New York Department of Health Diphtheria Protection health card.
On August 26, 1942 six year-old Cassotto, Walden Robert received
his immunization for Diphtheria. The
second dose with administered on October 7, 1942 and final shot on November 18,
1942. BOBBY’S PERSONAL MUSIC WRITING BOOK In
1957 on an ordinary standard issue music writing book Bobby Darin signed his new
signature with a flourish then opened its pages and began to doodle music notes
and measures. There are a few bars
of “Without Love,” a page titled “Wear My Ring” and then two pages with
the complete hand written lyrics to “By My Side.”
“By My Side” was copyrighted on July 22, 1957 with Don Kirshner as
collaborator. Also included is the
Duchess Music Corporation sheet music for “By My Side” and a CD recording of
“By My Side” sung by David Hill. SCRIPT: THE VENDORS!! In
1969 Bobby wrote, and in 1970 filmed, directed and produced “The Vendors”
which starred Gary Wood, Dick Lord and Mariette Hartley. As we all know this film was never released and a copy of the
script has never before surfaced. Here
we have a complete copy of a copy of that script! The script is bound into a black hard cardboard script holder UNPUBLISHED 11 x 14 COLOR PHOTO OF

color photo (in delicate condition) from 1966/67 of Bobby sitting in a chair in
his dressing room. He is shown with
his hands folded, facing the camera with a bemused expression.
He is wearing a black robe and his glasses are beside him on a table.
This is a wonderful candid pose of a relaxed Bobby. SCRIPT: THE BOBBY DARIN SHOW At
the completion of each project Bobby Darin would have the script from that show
professionally bound and labeled for preservation in his personal library.
This brown leather-bound script from his personal collection is the
script from the twelfth Bobby Darin Show, broadcast on April 20, 1973.
Bobby’s guests were Carol Lawrence, Pat Buttram and Bill Withers. SCRIPT: THE DARIN INVASION Brown

The Darin Invasion was taped in Canada in October 1970 with guest stars
George Burns and Linda Ronstadt. This
syndicated Canadian TV special was broadcast in the U.S. in 1971. MIKE DOUGLAS SHOW PHOTO BOOKLET Bobby
was co-host on the Mike Douglas Show for the week of February 5 – 9, 1968.
Some of the guests that week were Lesley Gore, Geraldine Chaplin, Barbara
Walters and Michigan Governor George Romney.
This is a 16-page photo filled booklet of unpublished candid shots of
Bobby, Mike and other guests taken during that week. LETTER FROM JIMMY McHUGH ORIGINAL
letter from Jimmy McHugh to Bobby dated February 7, 1961.
On September 5, 1959 Bobby appeared at the Hollywood Bowl in: A Lovely
Way to Spend the Evening – The Music of Jimmy McHugh.
Mr. McHugh was one of the great prolific songwriters from the
20’s-50’s. This letter to Bobby
details his hopes of working with Bobby on a song to be called When You and I
Were Young Maggie Blues. LETTER TO RON ZIEGLER, PRESS
SECRETARTY TO PRESIDENT NIXON COPY
of Bobby Darin’s June 2, 1970 letter to Ron Ziegler, Press Secretary to
President Nixon, %The White House. The
letter confirms Bobby’s telephone conversation with Mr. Ziegler regarding the
President’s intentions in the Cambodian involvement and as a result of that
conversation Bobby’s intentions to postpone the planned march of June 13,
1970. This letter clearly shows
Bobby’s sincere deep-felt convictions regarding social/political issues of the

sheet music for “That Funny Feeling.” This
Bobby Darin penned song was released as a single in August 1965.
The arrangement is by Richard Wess and Mr. Wess also conducted the
orchestra for the recording. There

John R. Hamilton for Globe Photos. These
