DARIN LIFETIME EVENT 09 May 16 – 17, 2009 South Point Hotel, Las Vegas RAFFLE/AUCTION WRAP UP Family,
Friends and Fans of Bobby Darin once again met in Las Vegas to celebrate the
life, legacy and music of Mr. Darin. Besides
the wonderful concert, various other activities were held to raise money for the
Children’s Heart Foundation (CHF). These activities (as detailed below) resulted in a donation
of - $11,075 - to the CHF in Mr. Darin’s
memory. RAFFLE: Thank you to Bobby's
brother, Gary Walden, for his generosity in donating Bobby's pipe and AFTRA
booklet for this raffle. Thank you to everyone
who participated in the on-line raffle...I wish we could have cloned the pipe
and sent it home with each and every one who purchased a ticket. Results: 217 raffle tickets sold to 33 individuals from 21 states and
3 countries. Total presented to the
CHF: $1,810. Through the generosity
of Gary Walden and the above mentioned 33 Darin fans we were privileged to
present to the Children's Heart Foundation a check for $1,810. The lucky winners are: 1st prize - The Pipe -
Marilyn Brown, California 2nd prize - Scripto
Record and Pen - Jacky Dyer, Canada 3rd prize - AFTRA
booklet - Fil Marchese, NY MACK
IS FIFTY PENDANT DRAWING: Susan Schooley, jewelry
designer extraordinaire, bought and donated one of the Mack is Fifty jewelry
pendants for a special $5 drawing. This
drawing netted $400 for the CHF with the pendant going to Wes Shonerd.
Kanna Jones designed beautiful Mack the Knife Gold Record table
centerpieces that she generously made them available for purchase, netting an
additional $180 for the CHF. AUCTIONS: A
heartfelt thank you to Bobby’s brother, Gary Walden, and Bobby’s son, Dodd
Darin, for their generous donation of Darin memorabilia from their private
collections. Also special thanks to
Jimmy Scalia and Bob Rozario for their one-of-a-kind donations. Live
auctions were conducted on Saturday and Sunday nights.
With Gary Walden as auctioneer and Jane Schran, Ruth Harzer and Ericha
Walden as our “Vanna Girls” the auctions were lively, entertaining and
amazing. Saturday auction donations totaled $5,650
and Sunday’s auction netted another $3,215.
Some
amazing totals: sheet music - $880; bound scripts - $785; letters, original and
copies – $1,400; ties: $680; various photographs - $1,860; acetate record -
$300; miscellaneous items such as signed contracts and memorabilia netted over
$2,500. On
Monday, May 18, 2009 the Darin Lifetime Event 09 group presented a grand total
of $11,075
to the Children’s Heart Foundation representative.
